Mike Mignola, the creator of Hellboy, has been cooking up a complete new fantasy universe, and the primary ebook set in it’s out now. Bowling with Corpses and Different Unusual Tales From Lands Unknown, is an anthology that reads like a set of myths and folklore. The tales are macabre with a contact of caprice (as in, occasional animal narrators), starting from a boy’s weird journey after he turns into the sudden wielder of a strong useless hand, to the creation of the world and gods within the eponymous Lands Unknown.
Mignola stated when the venture was introduced final 12 months that “it began with an Italian folktale a few boy who goes bowling with corpses,” which he wished to adapt, but in addition to “play quick and free” in doing so. “So I created a complete new world,” he stated. Bowling with Corpses hits comedian shops right this moment, and you may learn a snippet from “Una and the Satan” (one in all my favourite tales within the ebook) beneath.
Unsurprisingly, Mignola’s model lends itself effectively to the idea of creepy folks tales, and there are some actually gorgeous visuals that convey all of it to life: a girl rising from a blood-filled casket; a person following a floating dagger via a forest bathed in crimson; a newly reworked creature of the evening spreading her wings for the primary time. The ebook comprises eight tales throughout its 112 pages (and a promise for extra to come back!), so there’s loads of good things to sink your tooth into.
Mignola collaborated as soon as once more with Ben Stenbeck (Our Bones Mud) to create the Lands Unknown universe, and the ebook is the primary to be revealed below Mignola’s new imprint, Curious Objects, from Darkish Horse Comics. Bowling with Corpses and Different Unusual Tales From Lands Unknown was written and illustrated by Mignola, coloured by Dave Stewart and lettered by Clem Robins.
