Telegram Launched Embedded Web3 Browser for Decentralized Sites

Telegram users will be able to visit decentralized websites directly through the app due to a new feature.

Telegram Launches Built-In Web3 Browser

The Telegram team announced a major update. One of the new features is a built-in Web3 browser that will enable visiting decentralized websites directly in the messenger app. The press release notes that the new feature will make Web3 space more accessible for messenger users, whose number already exceeded 950 million.

For now, only TON Sites will be available for viewing in the built-in Web3 browser. The servers of such websites are deployed on blockchain The Open Network. All Telegram users can launch decentralized sites on TON. Pavel Durov, CEO of Telegram, said that the new feature supports multiple tabs and allows users to switch between browsing sites and messaging.

In addition, the new Telegram update launched the Mini App Store and added the ability to send friends “Stars,” an internal currency for the Mini App. The press release notes that more than 500 million Telegram users interact with Mini App every month. For Mini App users and developers, several other small updates related to the display of the list of apps, demos, and other features were added.

Last month, TON Application Chain and Polygon Labs announced their cooperation in launching an EVM-compatible L2 protocol in The Open Network ecosystem, which would allow Telegram users to access various dApps in the Ethereum ecosystem.
